Ride to Beer Friday after Work

Join us in Walk and Bike Month

by Martin Mapes

One of the most frequent questions we've gotten about the Boulder Ale Trail is "will you organize rides?"

A year later, the answer is finally "Yes!"

The good people at Community Cycles invited us to plan a ride along the Boulder Ale Trail, and we jumped at the opportunity.

My favorite itinerary is to ride halfway down the trail on a summer evening, stop for some beer, then ride home, all before sunset. So I volunteered to lead three Friday-after-work rides, each one a little farther than the last.

Here are the three rides we'll be doing in June.

Community Cycles to New Planet

June 3 (Thanks, New Planet!)

New Planet was an early sponsor of the Boulder Ale Trail, and they're the perfect distance for a short (7-mile) ride out of Boulder. See the event on Walk and Bike Month web site

Assemble Leave by Ride to Dist. one way Sunset
Community Cycles 5:30 PM New Planet ~7 miles 8:26

Boulder Beer to Vindication

June 10

Boulder Beer also sponsors the Boulder Ale Trail; in fact they mark the official start of the trail. Vindication is just a bit further than New Planet. See the event on Walk and Bike Month web site

Assemble Leave by Ride to Dist. one way Sunset
Boulder Beer 5:00 PM Vindication ~8 miles 8:30

J. Wells to Bootstrap

June 17

J. Wells is another sponsor and no summer would be complete without a visit or two. Bootstrap Brewing in Niwot is about 10 miles down the trail, long enough to work up a thirst. Make sure you are in shape to return before dark, or bring your bus pass and throw your bike on the BOLT that passes by Niwot as it returns to Boulder. See the event on Walk and Bike Month web site

Assemble Leave by Ride to Dist. one way Sunset
J. Wells 5:00 PM Bootstrap ~10 miles 8:33

* Okay, we admit it. There are segments of the trail where there are cars. See the Route Overview page for more details.
